The installation of a photovoltaic system in the Osnatel Arena has been on the agenda for some time. "Due to the building of our new North stand new possibilities have arisen as a result", explained VfL's President Dr Dirk Rasch. The Osnabrück municipal utilities company and the football club VfL Osnabrück together with SUNOS Solarpower worked together on the erection and day-to-day operation of the unit. "We have already built a large-scale plant in South Germany for the Osnabrück municipal utilities company and a close partnership links us as a co-sponsor with VfL" emphasises the SUNOS Managing Director Frank Hemme.
On the roof of the new North Stand of the VfL-stadium more than 200 modules were erected on an area of almost 280 m² in the past few days. "We have made best use of this space", explained Hemme. In addition it is planned to install a display screen in the VIP lounges at the stadium which will show the real-time quantity of energy produced. "A smashing idea, as a club we have the possibility of giving the general public and our partners a better understanding of the advantages of renewable generation of energy, stressed Dr Rasch.
