The power of the sun

Gigantic potential

The sun is an enormous and almost inexhaustible power station. Every year it delivers over 219,000 milliard kWh energy for free. This is 3,000 times as much energy as the total population of the world needs today.

In Germany the annual mean insolation amounts to approximately 1,000 kWh/m². This represents an energy consumption of approximately 100 litres of oil per square metre in the Federal Republic. Certainly at the present state of the art this would be sufficient reason to develop solar energy to become a cornerstone of the German power supply.

To completely cover the energy needs of the Federal Republic at today's system effectiveness approx. 3,000 million km² screen surface area would be required. More than 2,800 km² are available- approximately a quarter of this is technically useable.

Solar energy is an important backup of enduring, environmentally friendly supply of energy. It is always available and can be used consistently in keeping with the demands of nature and the protection of the countryside. The solar energy makes us independent of the sources of fossil and nuclear energy, whose price development can hardly be influenced and about which we know that one day they will be exhausted.

Solar technology enables a long-term and safe supply of energy for humanity. As a domestic source of energy on hand it ensures an independence from the rising oil and gas prices and guards against crises with raw materials.
